When customers not directly in the beverage industry visit our warehouse they often ask why wine barrels and whiskey barrels look so much different? Why are wine barrels more pristine, their joinery more refined, and their hoops comparatively untarnished?
Why do whiskey barrels look as rugged and ragged as a gravelly voiced old bluesman at closing time? Staves unevenly sized, hoops rusted like abandoned train tracks?
Good questions … and I’m sure someone, somewhere, actually has an answer. But not us!
We simply tell them it’s just because some people drink wine and some drink whiskey.
If you’ve ever been at a party with both, you’ll surely know the difference.
